All-time series: FSU 13-8-1
This game doesn’t exactly promise to show the brighter side of college football. Florida State is coming off of a disappointing season after losing QB Deondre Francois very early. And Southern Miss, well, they’re in CUSA. But the mystery of bowl games always lurks around the corner.
QB Kwadra Griggs will be under center for the Golden Eagles. He missed some time this season, but still put up 1,793 yards with 15 TDs and only 2 interceptions. Korey Robertson (72-1,070-11) will be his main target. Allenzae Staggers (43-469-5) is a solid #2. RB Ito Smith (1,321 yds, 13 TDs) will keep the Seminoles defense honest on the ground.
James Blackman was thrust into the spotlight early on this season. He still managed to put up 1,997 yards with 15 TDs. His 11 interceptions are a concern for FSU fans though. Nyqwan Murray (40-604-4) and Auden Tate (35-464-7) are a good 1-2 punch for Blackman. Cam Akers (930 yds, 7 TDs) can be dangerous out of the backfield.
This won’t be the most exciting bowl game this season, but we’ll see a glimpse of the next couple years from both teams. 17 points is a big spread, but I like the under because I feel the FSU defense will smother USM.
