I, for one, was excited when I learned Las Vegas was getting an NHL team. I love hockey, I love Vegas. But in no way, shape, or form did I expect this astounding start to the season. No one did. They keep setting, and then breaking, records. This is truly something to see whether you’re a fan of the sport or not. As a matter of fact, even if your team is suddenly a rival; this is simply fun.
Gerard Gallant has done a superb job with this team. And they seem to be playing their hearts out for him. Centers Jonathan Marchessault (15-22-37) and William Karlsson (20-13-33) lead the team in scoring. They’re getting it done night after night. RWs Reilly Smith (10-21-31) & James Neal (17-10-27) and LWs David Perron (9-22-31) & Erik Haula (14-13-27) are perfect complements to these 2 guys running the offensive attack.
The Golden Knights have been stellar between the pipes too. 3-time Stanley Cup Champion Marc-Andre Fleury, back from injury, is allowing an amazing 1.77 GAA and boasts a Save Percentage of .943. In his absence, Malcolm Subban (2.25 GAA, .922%) picked up where Fleury left off. This is a solid tandem in the net.
So here we are, about the halfway point in the season, and the Golden Knights are 27-9-2, atop the league, a +29 goal differential, and coming off of an 11-1-1 December. We all have our team, the guys we’ll continue to root for. But enjoy this ride that Vegas is taking us on this year. We may not see anything like this again.
