The Case For NKU

Ok, I’ll preface this by saying this blog may be slightly biased. NKU is my alma mater. Also, full disclosure, I only attended one semester. But that still counts, right?

The Norse (22-8, 15-3) won the regular season in the Horizon. Now, I mentioned a few blogs ago that I believe the regular season champion should get the automatic bid rather than the conference tournament champ. With that aside, if they just win the tourney, they’re in. But what if they get upset? How can the committee not want them in? What a great story they were last season. First year of eligibility, facing UK in the 1st round, giving UK a pretty good game. And they covered! I was in Vegas last year, as I always am for March Madness, and I got to meet the legendary Brent Musburger. We talked about NKU for a bit. His exact words were “I don’t think Calipari wanted to see NKU for another minute”.

He knows a thing or two about basketball, guys.

The Norse are led by Drew McDonald (16.7, 9.4, 2.2) and Lavone Holland II (13.7, 4.2, 4.4). This team plays well together and are very well coached. They deserve to be in the tournament, even if it’s an at-large bid. But I feel they win the conference tourney and make this a moot point. The NCAA needs stories like this amid all the negative news coming out lately.

So let’s all collectively put on our proverbial rally caps and give a big #NorseUp to cheer these guys on. We all love seeing the little guys take the big boys out in March. Who better to do this than the Northern Kentucky University Norse? Norse Up!!!
