Katastro released their newest album, Washed, last week. As a huge fan of this band, this was a highly anticipated release for me. They did not disappoint, Washed is possibly their best album to date. It seems these guys developed a closer bond, both musically and personally during the time leading up to this release. Each track is delivered with energy and passion. It’s hard to pick a favorite on an album this good, but I’ll highlight a few that stand out to me.
The album starts off with Fake Smile, a really good song that gets you into the vibe right off the bat. Katastro leaned toward a heavier synth sound on this album and it works like a charm.
Flashbacks details some of the struggles the band has had and how they’ve bounced back from it. This is truly an incredible song full of passion and honesty. Check out the video for this one as well.
ROKU is probably my favorite track. Such a great song, it makes you want to put it on repeat for about 3 weeks. It depicts a breakup, complete with inherent bitterness, that we can all relate to.
Again, every song on this album is great. You don’t find many like that these days. I highly recommend checking it out. If you haven’t heard them before, give it a shot. If you’re already a fan, you’re in for a treat.
All in all, what makes this album work is that they have shown their human side. We all look at bands and musicians solely as entertainment, sometimes forgetting that they’re just like us in most aspects. Katastro has laid bare their struggles, the parts of life that most of us don’t want to talk about. We should all be so courageous. From a lyrical standpoint, it’s real, it’s raw, it’s sometimes painful.
It’s also exquisitely beautiful.
