Day 1 is in the books for March Madness. We had some great games and we had a few blowouts. This year is the first year in quite some time that I’m not in Vegas watching these games. My buddies and I decided to make the drive to West Virginia, a much more cost efficient trip than Vegas. I am very impressed with the Mountaineer Casino. It has a William Hill book and a decent sized sportsbook. The place also has huge potential for growth as it is very spacious. It will be interesting to see what path they take going forward.
Right out of the gate we had the Pitino Revenge game. The Golden Gophers took it to Louisville from the start and never let up. Right on its heels, Yale gave LSU everything it had. Just like Vegas, the sportsbook was loud as bettors were on edge the last few minutes of this game. New Mexico State gave us an exciting game when they took Auburn down to the buzzer. Vermont made a strong effort to be Cinderella before Florida State pulled away late. They still covered though.
Michigan State struggled early before putting away Bradley. Belmont showed they belonged with a strong game against Maryland. Kansas then easily disposed of Northeastern. Then we got to see one hell of a showcase talent. Ja Morant put on a show for the ages. Behind Morant and his triple double, Murray State trounced Marquette by 19. This kid is something special.
Moving to the later games, Florida, who I said didn’t belong, proved me wrong. They took it to Nevada in the first half and cruised to victory. UK beat Abilene Christian like a red headed stepchild. Gonzaga did the same with FDU. The Villanova vs St Mary’s was a good game, with Nova hanging on to win.
The last 4 games didn’t really provide much drama. Wofford, Michigan, Baylor, and Purdue all had their games in hand, for the most part. Bettors had drama, as a couple of these points spreads were back and forth late in the game. As far as advancing, not much worry to be had.
We get 3 more days of this, and I couldn’t be happier. As far as my betting went……..it could be better. Louisville killed my first parlay at the very start. I was doing well on my 2nd one until Vermont hit a late 3 pointer. My hockey parlay? Let’s just say I’m not a fan of the Sharks this morning. I had a 7 leg ML parlay, hit the first 6 games, and then the Sharks crushed my soul. It happens, it’s not the first time, but damn those Sharks.
I hope everyone has a great day today, whether you’re betting or just watching. Gamble wisely and just simply enjoy the games. Don’t be the guy I saw yesterday getting mad because he was losing a bet. If you get mad over that, you probably shouldn’t be gambling.
